Aastha Gulati and Lyndsi Zapata co-host an international, interdisciplinary, movement and wellness workshop.

Join us for classes in:

  • Chakra aligning
  • Yoga
  • Meditation
  • Flying Low
  • Indo-Contemporary
  • Release Technique

This workshop will be held May 21 through May 24, 1pm-4pm.

$30 per day, OR, $100 for all four days!

Additionally, SIZA prepares for their next performance in October 2018.

Auditions will be held May 25, 1pm-4pm.

Monday: Aastha Gulati leads 3 hours filled of knowledge and expertise, offing a holistic approach to yoga and meditation. *This day of our workshop is recommended to all those interested in yoga, meditation and wellness.

Tuesday: We dedicate our second day of workshop to Flying Low technique, based from the teachings of David Zambarano, Tess Letham, and Cristina Planas Leitão. Come challenge your limits, as we use our full body to slide ourselves across the floor. *This day of our workshop is recommended for Int/Adv dancers.

Wednesday: 7 main energy centers in the body, known as chakras, are located throughout our body so that it correlates to specific body ailment and physical functions. Each energy center also houses our mental and emotional strengths. Gulati and Zapata personally work to align each students' energies. *This day of our workshop is recommended to those who are interested in balancing energies and personal wellness.

Thursday: Aastha Gulati uses her intimate knowledge of traditional Indian dance with a contemporary spin. Lyndsi Zapata follows with a Release Technique inspired class with elements of choreography that will be used in Friday's audition for SIZA's upcoming project in October. *This day of our workshop is recommended for Int/Adv dancers.

Friday: Lyndsi Zapata leads dancers into an audition class to prepare for SIZA's next project regarding the controversial issue of gun reform to be performed in October 2018.

About the company: Zapata founded SIZA so that she could dedicate her craft to exploring social activism and progressive politics. The dance group performed in Kai Hazelwood's "Dance In Progress", James MahKween's "RELECT: LOVE", and will be a part of the OC Dance Festival in May. SIZA has self produced events such as "Planned Parenthood and Jam" (an all-artist improvisational jam session to raise money for accessible healthcare), as well as YEAR ONE (an evening length show addressing our current political administration). SIZA has been in music videos such as DeRon Horton's "Patient" as well as dance for camera piece "E.T.A." by Alexis Floyd. The company has been featured in various articles including My Honey and Co.’s February 2017 “Killer Bee” Issue, well as Modest Truth Mag’s 2017 Spring Issue, “New Faces of Politics”. SIZA affiliates with oraganization such as ALLIN and ARULA: Artsists Rise Up Los Angeles.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Aastha Gulati is an Indian-based, professional dancer and choreographer since 2000 and has trained in various dance forms under renowned professionals. She is also a fitness instructor for the past 8 years and blends yoga, pilates, stretch work and zumba. She also conducts knowledge and awareness talks and is a spiritual wellness trainer for the past 9 years. Her passion and love for dance and fitness has propelled her to constantly better her own abilities as a dancer, as well as a choreographer and reach out to as many, to share and multiply all that has been given to her.

Lyndsi Zapata is a Portland, Oregon native and earned her BFA at California Institute of the Arts in May 2016.  Dance has taken Zapata to study abroad in Seoul, South Korea at Korea National University of Arts, as well as Lucca, Italy as of Dance Italia. In November of 2016, her dance company SIZA emerged into its debut season in Los Angeles. Zapata teaches SIZA company classes, modern classes for teens at Inspire Dance Studio, and dance fitness classes at CalTech. She works as a Box Office Manager and Administrative Assistant at Pasadena Dance Theatre and has partnered with Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre's educational outreach program, DuckEd.
